Phobias
Remove your phobias
You may be surprised to discover how many different phobias have been identified. There are several sites out there that list them but one that is very comprehensive is at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_phobias
How do you get a phobia?
This is a question that is often asked and the answer is not always the same. Very often it is because of something unpleasant that happens to you, and although the likelihood of it happening again is very small, you develop an “over the top” fear of it. In other cases, you might learn the fear from an adult when you are young. A good example of this is a parent (over) reacting to the presence of a fly or a bee or wasp. If this is repeated often enough, you too develop the fear and it can be even worse than the parent’s own fear.
Why are we so prone to phobias?
Our minds are set up so as to try to keep us alive. Our subconscious, in particular, has the job of stopping us from doing anything that might endanger us and so it steps in when it thinks we are about to experience danger. Normally this makes us shy away from dangerous things without having to think about it, but your subconscious can also become programmed to protect us from things which are not, in themselves, dangerous. When this happens we develop a phobia.
So why can’t we just tell ourselves to change?
Our subconscious mind is made in such a way that we cannot simply tell it to change. The reason for this is because we often do not know why it is stopping us from doing something, or why it is making us do something, so uncontrolled changes could lead to severe danger for us.
But hypnotherapy can allow us to make changes
When we are very relaxed, our conscious mind is able to communicate with our subconscious mind, and with the guidance of a skilled hypnotherapist, you can make the changes that are needed. It is important to realise though, that because it is actually your conscious mind that is asking your subconscious to make the changes, they will only work if you are consciously wanting the change to happen. So it has to be a change that you consciously want, or it will not happen.
